Eastern Cape police said two of the four awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from police custody at Whittlesea on Wednesday were back behind bars.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said one of the men, 28-year-old Odwa Siqanqalala, handed himself over to police on the same day.
He said they also recovered a firearm that he had been stolen during the escape.
Kinana said a second escapee, Mzuvukile Mzimkulu (31), was also re-arrested on Wednesday at Sasa location.
The hunt for the remaining two men, 33-year-old Mbeko Stuurman, and 31-year-old Lundi Mzimkhulu, is continuing.
