A Policeman from the Mount Road cluster in Port Elizabeth had to keep his cool following an encounter with an unusual 'suspect' who was hiding inside his vehicle.
The 33-year-old Detective Constable Sithembile Booi was on official duties in Newton Park on Wednesday night when he felt a sting on his left leg as he was entering his vehicle.
A Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says Booi looked down and saw a snake slither under the vehicle.
She says Booi inspected his leg but could not see anything as it was too dark, however, once he started to drive back to the station, he felt a sensation in his left leg and immediately reported it to his colleagues.
Upon arriving at the station the snake was spotted in the front wheel of the vehicle and after several attempts, it was eventually retrieved.
Janse van Rensburg says the snake had to be killed as it was to difficult to retrieve it alive from the section of the wheel it was at.
A photograph of the snake was sent to a hospital and it was established that it was not venomous.
The constable received the necessary treatment and was discharged for hospital.
