KING WILLIAM’S TOWN, May 8 (ANA) – A 66-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman drowned when they tried to cross the fast-flowing Nxaxho River at Nxaxho location, Gaqa Village, at Centane, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
The two attempted to cross the river in their double cab bakkie at about 2pm on Saturday when the vehicle was swept away by the “strong stream of the river”, Captain Jackson Manatha said.
The woman’s body was found by members of the community on the river bank and the man’s body was retrieved from the river by East London police divers, both on Sunday.
Centane police had opened an inquest docket, Manatha said.
