The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality 0800 20 50 50 24-hour toll free number to report water leaks and other municipal related complaints is currently not accessible due to a fire on the 8th Floor on the Mfanasekhaya Gqobose building (formerly known as Eric Tindale) in Govan Mbeki Avenue.
Residents are advised to e-mail the centre at waterleaks@mandelametro.gov.za in the interim while the technical team works on the restoration of the telephone lines.
Municipality spokesperson Kupido Baron says Fire & Emergency Services received notification of the fire at 01:18 on Sunday morning and would remain on the scene to ensure that the fire remains under control.
He told AlgoaFM News that it was a devastating fire that cause a substantial amount of damage, but that it had been contained on the 8th floor.
An investigation by the Fire Department in consultation with the SA Police Services is underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
Baron says details of the extent of disruption to municipal services such as the Customer Care Centre that is housed in the same building will be released as soon as they become available.
