A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment at the Grahamstown High Court for raping an eight-year-old boy in Graaff-Reinet.
Jonathan Lombard was convicted and sentenced to the heinous crime on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Bradley Rawlinson, says the victim shared a room with Lombard and his brother when the incident took place in February last year.
He says the child's mother responded to the boy's cries late one evening and made the gruesome discovery, this, after spotting the suspect fleeing from the house in Umasizakhe.
Rawlinson says the Graaff-Reinet clinic later confirmed that the child had been raped.
Lombard was arrested two days after the incident.
