Two private construction workers were killed in a freak accident in Windvogel in Gqeberha on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says police responded to a complaint on 3rd Avenue in Windvogel at approximately 1 pm.
She says upon arrival they were informed that the two men, aged 33 and 38, were busy working in a trench when the walls collapsed.
Both workers were buried and trapped and although medics immediately responded their lives could not be saved.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says when attempts were made to retrieve their bodies the trench walls collapsed for a second time.
The fire department also assisted on the scene.
The names of the victims will only be released once their next of kin have been informed.
An inquest docket was opened.
