Two men have been arrested on charges under the Criminal Matters Amendment Act after being caught inside a substation in Sidwell in Gqeberha.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said Municipal officials doing routine inspections on Saturday night noticed the door to the substation in Hoch Street was open.
She said they then detained two men, aged 20 and 21, who were removing copper cables and handed them over to the Gqeberha K9 Unit on their arrival on the scene.
Janse Van Rensburg said they were detained on charges of housebreaking and theft and under the Criminal Matters Amendment Act related to damage to essential infrastructure
She said police recovered copper wire and other implements including two electric current readers.
They will appear in the New Brighton Magistrate Court on Monday.
