George detectives have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of an elderly woman at Kraaibosch Estate.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, said the arrests of the two men, aged 28 and 31, was made within five hours after the discovery of the body of 77-year-old Isabella Kruger.
He says her body was found in the bathtub in her home by her daughter.
“The breakthrough came after these members received and followed up information from a member of the public who saw one of the suspects earlier at the Honda Jazz, belonging to the deceased, that ran off the Old-Knysna/George road between George and Hoekwil,” said Pojie.
“The information was followed up and led to the find of the Opel Corsa the suspect was traveling in on the N-2 between George and Wilderness.”
Pojie said police stopped and searched the vehicle and found suspected stolen goods, including a labtop and other valuables that had belonged to the victim. The vehicle was also impounded.
“The two suspects were arrested on the spot and are detained at the George police holding cells. Thy face a charge of murder. They are scheduled to make their first appearance in the George magistrates' court on Wednesday, 22 March 2017 for murder,” Pojie said.
He said an autopsy will be conducted this week to determine the possible cause of her death.
Pojie said the Eden Cluster Commander, Major-General. Oswald Reddy commended the Trio Crime investigating Team, assisted by George SAPS Detectives and the Local Criminal Record Centre's Forensic experts for their sterling work and dedication that led to the apprehension of the duo.
