Port Elizabeth police said a gang member is behind bars for a shooting incident in Jacksonville earlier this month.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says a 19-year-old man was arrested at a house in Guava Street in Jacksonville on Sunday evening by the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit, the unit’s second gang bust for the day.
She said the teenager is the suspect in the shooting of a 22-year-old man who was wounded in the mouth on 7 March.
“It is alleged that on the mentioned date at about 19:15, the 22 year old victim was driving home to Velocia Street in Jacksonville Bethelsdorp when shots were fired at him in Mpuku Street in Jacksonville,” Naidu said.
“The victim sustained a gunshot wound through his mouth but still managed to drive home. He was taken to hospital by his father. Due to his injuries, he was unable to communicate for two weeks,” she said.
“On 19 March 2017 at about 19:45, the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit assisted by members of the Operational Command Centre arrested a 19 year old suspect at his house in Guava Street, Jacksonville,” said Naidu.
She said “the suspect is detained for attempted murder and will appear in court on Wednesday, 22 March 2017.”
