Two BCM officials suspended without pay

Eastern Cape Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Xolile Nqatha, has suspended two Buffalo City Metro Municipality councillors without pay for three months.

Department spokesperson Makhaya Komisa says Councillors Nicky Vitbooi and Kuhle Ciliza allegedly violated the Municipal Systems Act.

Komisa says Vitooi’s suspension follows the unauthorized distribution of food parcels, which was never discussed with community members of her ward during the National lockdown last year.

She is also alleged to have stolen half of the money that was allocated for a burial of a destitute family which led to community members taking her to court.

Komisa added that Ciliza allegedly distributed some of the food parcel vouchers to families of other wards instead of her own by manipulating the list of the appropriate beneficiaries.

She is also alleged to have solicited a R50 000 bribe from an artist.
