A 47-year-old woman from New Brighton in Port Elizabeth has been found guilty of illegally marrying off, South African women to foreign nationals.
The city's specialised Commercial Crimes Court found Nomabandla Manjezi guilty on four counts of corruption and two counts of fraud on Tuesday.
Hawk spokesperson, Philani Nkwalase says she was arrested together with a foreign national in 2017 following a tip-off received by immigration officers about fraudulent marriage certificates between foreigners and South African women issued in the area.
Nkwalase says the duo recruited young women from New Brighton, KwaZakhele, Zwide and paid them between R200 and R300 to marry men from Bangladesh.
Manjezi will be sentenced in February.
