Eastern Cape police have arrested two suspects and confiscated abalone to the value of R190 000 near Maletswai during an intelligence-driven operation.
Spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse says information was received from the Komani K9 unit on Saturday about an Isuzu bakkie loaded with abalone heading towards Maletswai.
She says the vehicle was stopped 4 km from the town.
The two occupants, aged 27 and 41 tried to flee the scene, but were arrested.
Captain Roelofse says the vehicle was searched and 10 bags, containing 755 units of abalone, as well as the suspects' phones and the bakkie were confiscated.
The two will appear in the Maletswai Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of the illegal possession of abalone.
