Eastern Cape police have arrested five men suspected to be connected to the murders of nine people and the wounding of another in three separate shooting incidents in Kwanobuhle and Kariega on Thursday.
Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says in the first incident, the bodies of four men were found inside a Mazda 323 while another body was found lying behind the vehicle in Mabi Street.
They all sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
A sixth man was taken to hospital.
Colonel Naidu says in the second incident, the bodies of two men were found inside a silver VW Polo and a third outside the vehicle in Zolanqini Street.
All had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The vehicle was reported stolen in Humansdorp in May 2022.
Naidu says four men, who were persons of interest were detained on Friday for questioning.
The men, aged between 26 and 30 were found at a possible hideout in Summerstrand.
Colonel Naidu says it was established that on the same day of the murders, another body of a man, aged between 18 and 25 years was found on the side of the road in Rooihoogte near Kwanobuhle.
She says a white Toyota Quantum, suspected to have been involved in the murders, was spotted driving from Langa location towards Kariega.
The vehicle was stopped and a 34-year-old man was arrested and the vehicle was confiscated.
Colonel Naidu says the three murder scenes are linked.
All five suspects will appear in the Kwanobuhle Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of murder and attempted murder.
