Port Elizabeth police have arrested two people on charges of public violence following ongoing protests in a part of Motherwell.
Residents are up in arms over the destruction by the municipality of housing structures which were built on land earmarked for housing development.
Police spokesperson, captain Andre' Beetge, says the arrests also follow the torching of an Algoa Bus Company bus on Wednesday morning and the blocking of roads with rubbish and other debris.
He says hundreds of residents arrived at the Motherwell police station to demand the release of the suspects but he says they dispersed peacefully afterwards.
