Two suspects are due to appear in court this week for the murder of an off-duty policeman, Sergeant Siyabonga Wakula, who was gunned down in Kwazakhele, Port Elizabeth last month.
Eastern Cape police said the suspects were arrested on Saturday in Komani/Queenstown after police received a tip-off that they were making their way from Mthatha to Cape Town.
Their vehicle was stopped and an unlicensed 9mm firearm with 15 live rounds of ammunition was seized. The serial number had been filed off.
Sergeant Wakula was shot and killed and his brother wounded while they sat outside a house in Nosidima Street in Kwazakhele on 21, July.
His brother survived.
Police said the two suspects face charges of murder and attempted murder as well as being the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
