Two arrested for Gqeberha shooting spree

File

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a series of shooting incidents in Gelvandale in Gqeberha, including firing on the police.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the drama unfolded on Tuesday night when police responded to a report of a shooting in Beaton Street where two women, aged 38 and 55, were shot and wounded.

“A 30-year-old male was found dead in a yard with multiple gunshots. He was later identified as Ashraf Nordien,” Naidu said.

She said while police were still busy at the scene, shots were heard in the adjacent Tobias Street, where two men sustained gunshot wounds.

Naidu said police spotted a white vehicle used in the shootings and as they approached the suspects fled, opening fire on the police.

“When the vehicle stopped in Numan Street, three suspects got out and ran away. Two suspects were found in the car - one with a gunshot wound to his leg while  the other sustained multiple stab wounds.”

She said three firearms were also recovered while the suspects were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Naidu said SAPS are investigating one case of murder, four cases of attempted murder, and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
