A 31-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a cashier to death in an East London supermarket is expected to make his first court appearance on Thursday.
The man, who appeared to have been unknown to the victim, is currently in hospital under police guard.
Police said the suspect entered the supermarket at around 8.30 on Sunday morning and attacked 36-year-old Nwabisa Luningo, a cashier who was working in one of the aisles at the time.
He was allegedly seen chasing Luningo to the front of the store, stabbing her as she fled.
She succumbed to the wounds sustained to her upper body.
The suspect was apprehended by security guards and handed over to police, and later admitted to Frere Hospital under police guard.
