Two arrested for business robbery in Libode

Eastern Cape police have arrested two suspects, aged 29 and 39, following a business robbery in Libode.

Spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena says it is alleged that five suspects, armed with pistols, entered a local supermarket yesterday, and held a security officer at gunpoint and robbed him his firearm.

The suspects then went to the cash office and held the security officer and store manager at gunpoint, before they took a cashbox, and ran out.

It is alleged that a sixth suspect was waiting outside in a black VW Polo with no registration number.

Koena says police gave chase, during which a shootout ensued between the suspects and the police.

A bystander was wounded and rushed to hospital in a stable condition.

Two suspects were arrested, and two pistols were recovered with serial numbers filed off.

Koena says both men, who are suspected to be linked to other cash heists around Mthatha, will appear in the Libode Magistrate's Court soon.

The four other suspects are still at large.
