Five people were killed in two separate accidents in Nelson Mandela Bay at the weekend.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says on Friday evening, Quinton Van Jaarsveld (age unknown) from Kariega was riding his motorcycle on the Rocklands Road in the direction of Gqeberha, when he collided with a cow.

He died at the scene.

In the second accident on Saturday evening, four people died on impact in a head-on collision between a truck and a Toyota Yaris on the R75 in Despatch.

Colonel Naidu says it is alleged that the Yaris was on the wrong side of the road when it collided with the truck that was transporting lead.

Two men and two women in the car were declared at the scene.

Police traced the family of one person, presumably the driver, while the identity of the other three passengers is unknown at this stage.

Cases of culpable homicide are being investigated.
