Eastern Cape Transport and Community Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxotiwe has welcomed the arrest of a suspected corrupt official stationed at the Port St Johns License Testing Centre.
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose says the 36-year-old was arrested by the police moments after counting and placing a R10-thousand bribe in cash in an inspector’s vehicle.
He says this was for the inspector to squash solid evidence of corruption against the officer.
Binqose says the inspector from the Transport Department conducted inspection work at the Centre last week where he picked up licensing irregularities and confiscated some documents.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday.
MEC Tikana-Gxotiwe has warned other corrupt personnel that they would soon face the full might of the law.
