Two Eastern Cape police members have been arrested on charges of drunken driving, as well as reckless and negligent driving for allegedly causing an accident at stop and go outside Lady Grey.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said the incident happened on Thursday on the R58 between Maletswai and Lady Grey.
He said the officers allegedly failed to stop after the collision with another vehicle, and as a result, they almost ran over two female road construction employees at the scene.
Kinana said there were no injuries from the accident.
He said a 31-year-old Constable and 56-year-old Warrant Officer from Maletswai SAPS, were subsequently arrested and are due to appear in court soon. They will also face disciplinary action.
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene, said the conduct of these members goes against the spirit and letter of the SAPS Code of Conduct.
"The members concerned must deal with the consequences of their actions," she said.
