The complainant in the assault case against Brent Cunningham has submitted a statement of withdrawal in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates' Court. However, the state has opposed the move.
Cunningham appeared calm and confident at Thursday's hearing. The complainant in the case, Shireen Ballan, was also in court, together with Cunningham's sister, Thrishke.
The court was told that she had submitted a statement of withdrawal, but the state opposed it. The case was postponed until Monday.
The assault on Ballan caused a stir on Facebook and is the talk of the town. Pictures of her bloodied face were widely distributed on the social network.
Cunningham already has a two year suspended sentence against him, for assaulting his father. He remains in custody until his next appearance.
