Nelson Mandela Bay deputy mayor, Chippa Ngcolomba, says the long-standing twinning agreement between the Metro and the Swedish city of Gothenburg, seeks to close the gap between policy and implementation.
Ngcolomba on Wednesday signed an extension of the twinning agreement that Nelson Mandela Bay concluded with the Swedish city way back in 1999. Under successive mayors, the agreement has been extended several times.
Meanwhile, the mayor of the Swedish city, Anneli Hulthen, says the agreement has moved beyond the project phase to a more permanent relationship between the two cities.
She says the joint management team set up to work on several areas of cooperation that include issues related to climate change, transportation and inner-city development, evaluated the various projects, adding that she's happy with the progress made despite challenges.
