An Eastern Cape man considered to be the province's worst serial killer has been jailed for an effective 25 life terms.
Butterworth judge Noluthando Conjwa, sentenced 39-year-old Bulelani Mabhayi today bringing an end to his reign of terror at Tholeni Village near the town.
He had pleaded guilty to 20 counts of murder, six of rape and 20 counts of house-breaking with intent to commit a crime.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, says they're more than happy with the outcome of the case which was won on DNA evidence obtained from all the men in Tholeni Village when other avenues failed.
"They had to round up the whole village and get DNA samples of all the families for them to be able to catch this man. They had a list of 61 suspects to compare DNA with until they found Mabhayi. He then plead quilty" Tyali said.
