Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Thandiswa Marawu, has issued an appeal to road users to ahdere to the rules of the road.
She was speaking to Algoa FM News from the scene of a horror accident outside Grahamstown on Tuesday in which seven people were killed.
Among the dead was a child estimated to be about two years old.
The cause of the three car pile-up near Seven Fountains is not immediately known.
MEC Marawu also expressed her concern that one of the vehicles involved in the crash had smooth tyres.
"I am appealing to all the road users to make a point that they adhere to the rules of the road. What we assume is that the cause of this accident was fatigue and also the condition of the car itself, the back tyre was so smooth, you can imagine what can happen if you drive such a vehicle at high speed" she said
