PE mother and child burnt to death

 Port Elizabeth police have opened an inquest docket following the death of a 36-year-old woman and her three year old daughter.

Police spokesperson, captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says the incident happened in an informal settlement in Booysens Park on Monday night.

She says neighbours tried desperately to fight the blaze but without success.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
