The recovery of an empty hijacked liquor truck by PE K9 unit members has led to the further recovery of most of the stolen liquor at a warehouse in Marine Drive near Schoenmakerskop.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the truck, carrying liquor to the value of R1.5 million, was hijacked in Grahamstown Road in Port Elizabeth at around 7 am on Thursday.
The truck was then driven to an unknown location where the liquor was offloaded.
Colonel Naidu says the truck, its driver and his crew were then abandoned in Victoria Drive in Walmer where they were found by police shortly before ten am the same morning.
Barely an hour later, K9 unit members assisted by a tracking company, recovered most of the stolen liquor at the warehouse near Schoenmakerskop.
Some of the liquor had already been removed from the warehouse.
A total of 652 sealed cases of various types of liquor and 46 loose bottles as well as three pressure trolley jacks were recovered.
The total value of the recovered alcohol is about R1,4 million.
The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Port Elizabeth is investigating a case of truck hijacking.
