Police in the Eastern Cape have expressed their shock and dismay after discovering the decapitated body of a four-year-old boy in Tsomo.

Spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni says the child's 37-year-old uncle was arrested for his murder.

He says it is alleged that the victim and his seven-year-old sister were left in the care of their uncle as the mother needed to go and get her social grant.

Captain Mdleleni says it is alleged that the uncle forced the older child to go to school, leaving him alone with the victim.

The sister child made the grim discovery when she returned home from school.

According to police, his headless body was covered with a cloth.

Police searched the area and found the head hanging in a tree.

The 37-year-old uncle will appear in the Tsomo Magistrates' Court on Monday.
