Two alleged truck hijackers are expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrates Court on Monday following their arrest in Greenbushes on Friday.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says it is alleged at approximately 12.45 the driver of a white Isuzu truck was stationary on the corners of Old Cape and Mission Road, waiting to enter the traffic.
She says two suspects approached the truck on the passenger side when one, with a firearm, approached the driver and pulled him out of the truck.
At this point, the passenger was also forced out.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the suspects drove off with the truck.
Still, moments later, the Gqeberha Flying Squad and a private security company patrolled the Greenbushes and Rocklands area when the truck was spotted.
The men, aged 29 and 36 were arrested and the truck was impounded.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the truck was empty and the cargo had already been offloaded.
She says the gun allegedly used in the hijacking is still missing and believed to be in possession of a third suspect who is still on the run.
The investigation is ongoing.
