A man will appear in court in Gqeberha on Monday after being caught with abalone following a high-speed chase this weekend
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said the arrest was made on Saturday after police received a tip-off.
She said K9 and Flying Squad members followed up on the information and spotted the suspect’s vehicle on the M4 freeway where a high-speed chase ensued.
Janse Van Rensburg said during the pursuit the suspect attempted to “force the SAPS” off the road while tossing bags out of the window.
She said the man lost control of his vehicle which crashed into the roadside barriers.
A total of 366 units of abalone were confiscated and the suspect was arrested for contravening the Marine Living Resource Act.
