Four men are due to appear in court in Oudtshoorn on Monday following their arrest for being in possession of ostrich carcasses and feathers.
The suspects were arrested last week by Dysselsdorp police who responded to reports of stock theft from a local farm.
Sergeant Chris Spies said they raided a house in Dysselsdorp on Thursday where the find was made.
He said they were unable to account for the carcasses and feathers and were arrested on a charge of possession of possible stolen property.
Spies said further investigation by the Oudtshoorn police established that several ostriches, valued at about R100 000 were stolen earlier from the same farm.
“Incidents of stock theft have a detrimental impact on the economy of this region and efforts to curb such incidents in partnership with farming communities, are in place,” Spies said.
The Western Cape police management reaffirmed the commitment of police to bring those who threaten the sustainability of this industry through the theft of livestock, to book.
