A truck driver has been killed in a head-on smash with another heavy duty vehicle on the N2 between Butterworth and East London.
Provincial Traffic Department Spokesperson Tsepho Machaya says a sedan was also involved in this morning's crash and appears to have been side-swiped by one of the trucks.
Machaya says four seriously injured people were admitted to Butterworth Hospital while one person sustained minor injuries.
The road will remain closed until the wreckage of the two trucks has been cleared.
Machaya said it was tragic that passersby appeared more interested in the contents of the two trucks than the welfare of the injured.
A motorist, who would prefer not to be named, says he witnessed total chaos when he drove past the accident scene.
