Uitenhage police arrested three men who used a donkey cart as their get-away vehicle following a house robbery in Vanes Estate on Sunday.
Police spokesperson, lieutenant-colonel Priscilla Naidu, says one of the men fell of the donkey cart when police pulled it over in Van Der Stel Avenue, about 10 kilometres from the scene.
"The donkeys were halted and when police searched the cart, they found all the stolen property. One of the three suspects fell off the cart as the donkeys negotiated a bend in the road," Naidu said.
She says he sustained serious bruises and was taken to Uitenhage Provincial Hospital where he was hospitalised for his injuries.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 22, will appear in court on Tuesday on charges of housebreaking.
Naidu says the donkey cart was impounded as an exhibit, while the two donkeys have been taken to the local SPCA.
