A 57-year old truck driver was assaulted and robbed by four armed suspects who stole his cell phone and cash before fleeing.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre’ Beetge said however, the men did not take anything from the light delivery truck, which was used to transport vegetables.
He said the incident occurred at around 6 AM when the suspects, driving in a black Toyota Corolla, blocked off the truck on the R-335 at the N2 freeway turn-off and three men approached the truck.
“Several shots were fired through the driver and passenger side doors. The driver was forced out of the vehicle and taken into the Toyota Corolla,” Beetge said.
He said the suspects then took the driver into bushes in Wells Estate where they assaulted him before took his cash and cell phone, before letting him go.
“The truck, a light Toyota delivery truck, used to transport vegetables was left at the scene and nothing was taken from the truck,” he added.
Beetge said police opened cases of attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault as well as robbery.
