Nelson Mandela Bay Executive mayor, Athol Trollip, said justice must be served for the squandering of R2.5bn on the Metro’s failed integrated public transport system.
Trollip tweeted his reaction on Friday to the court appearance for former EP rugby boss, Cheeky Watson and three others in connection procurement processes associated with the IPTS.
Watson is charged alongside three other people, Nadia Gerwel, Andrea Wessels and Mandisa Mkaza – a director of the company Laphumilanga.
Trollip said in a tweet that “those found guilty must be jailed.”
Speaking after his court appearance Watson said he believed “the charges were malicious and we’ll get to the bottom of it.”
Their case has been remanded to 3 May.
