The Eastern Cape Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs Department has sent condolences to the family of suspended Mnquma Municipality Manager, Sindile Tantsi.
Dispatch Online reports that he was killed in an accident on the N2 between Port Shepstone and Kokstad on Thursday.
At the time of his death Tantsi was facing fraud and corruption charges involving the issuing of R10 million “black plastic bag tender.”
The spokesperson for Cogta in the Eastern Cape, Mamnkeli Ngam, said “he died at a time when the country was in need of people of his calibre.”
“We believe he has left this world a free man as the principle of innocence until proven guilty still applies in this regard,” he said.
