Trollip returns to Eastern Cape

Democratic Alliance Eastern Cape leader Athol Trollip has left parliament to lead the party in the provincial legislature.

Trollip served as a shadow minister for the department of rural development and land reform after losing out to Lindiwe Mazibuko in a contest to be the party's caucus leader in parliament in 2011.

Trollip says though the position was exciting he felt under utilized.

He told Algoa FM news that when DA MPL, Pine Pienaar, passed away earlier this year, he thought it was a ideal opportunity to return to province.

"At times I felt underutilised and even under employed. I am not one of those people who can pretend to be busy when i am not. So when my colleague passed away I thought it was an ideal opportunity to return to the legislature and to lead our election campaign, where I will no doubt be fully occupied and utilised" he said.
