The Eastern Cape Education Department will be embarking on a learner verification programme.
This will be rolled out from Monday in conjunction with Statistics South Africa.
Bhisho Education Department spokesperson, Loyiso Pulumani, says the mission is to verify learners from both the primary and secondary schools across the province.
He says one of the key issues identified when the Department of Basic Education intervened in the province was the lack of credible information.
"The purpouse of this verification is to ensure that we go to each and every school to know exactly who goes to school there, the names of the learners, teachers and available infrastructure and support material. This is important for our planning to be able to go forward with credible information," Pulumani said
