Tributes came in on Friday following the passing of the Chairperson of the Mandela Bay Development Agency, Mandlakzai Skefile.
In a statement, the MBDA Board said the news of her passing came in the early hours of Friday morning.
“Having joined the Board in 2018, Ms Skefile was appointed as Board Chairperson in November 2020, and ably led the Agency during the heights of an unprecedented Coronavirus pandemic,” the Board said.
“Even when her health proved difficult, Ms Skefile mustered the strength to execute her responsibilities with purpose and dignity.”
“We pass our deepest condolences to her husband, Motse, and the children, we pray for strength and healing during this challenging time,” the Board said.
In a message of condolence, the ANC in the Eastern Cape said “her selflessness and unwavering commitment to the women's emancipation is well respected in the various positions she held with distinction.”
“We recall her role in the tourism sector of Nelson Mandela Bay, as Chief Executive Officer of Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism. She also served as Provincial Chairperson of the Women in Tourism (Eastern Cape),” said ANC provincial spokesperson, Gift Nqondi.
DA Provincial Leader, Nqaba Bhanga, also paid tribute to Skefile, describing her as an “excellent and responsible leader” who “showed absolute dedication to her task.”
