Tourist left traumatised after robbery on farm in Alicedale

A 37-year-old American tourist visiting a couple on a farm in Alicedale was left traumatised on Wednesday when five suspects violently disrupted their dinner.

Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says the 48-year-old complainant and her 49-year old husband were having dinner with the tourist when the men barged in.

She says they tied up the husband with a dog leash before instructing his wife to go open their safe.

The Freedom Front Plus identified the victims as retired police officer Erica Fox and her husband Andrie.

The men stole two shotguns, a pistol and a revolver as well as $1 000 in cash and an Apple iPhone.

Captain Govender says the woman also had diamonds and tanzanite in her safe which was stolen.

She says the American tourist managed to run away and was found at a nearby game reserve, unharmed, but full of scratches from running through the bush.

Govender says the tourist stepped out on a phone call and when he returned to the house saw the owner tied up.

She says they did not see him so he ran for his life.

The suspects fled on foot and are still on the run.

The total value of the stolen goods is R111 000.
