Top cop pays first visit to Eastern Cape


 National police commissioner, General Ria Phiyega, is in the Eastern Cape on Monday.

She is currently in a meeting with provincial commissioner, lieutenant-general Celiwe Binta and her provincial management, at police headquarters in Zwelitsha, in King Williams Town.

General Phiyega will also meet premier Noxolo Kiviet and Safety MEC, Helen Sauls-August during her day-long visit.

This is general Phiyega's first visit to the province since being appointed national police commissioner.

Meanwile, MEC Helen Sauls August has condemned the killing of yet another Eastern Cape police officer.

This, after 44 year old warrant officer, Khanyisile Gwanisheni, was found shot to death in his Mount Fletcher home on Sunday morning.

His serrvice pistol had been stolen and by late last night, there had been no arrests in connection with the 18 year veteran of the police service.

His death brings to three, the number of policemen murdered in the Eastern Cape in the past few weeks.
