A 37-year-old man from East London is in police custody following his arrest for allegedly slitting the throat of a toddler.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says it is alleged that the suspect, who is the boyfriend of the child's mother, fetched him near his home on Tuesday where he was playing with other children.
She says he then took the child into the bushes in Bhongweni Location where he allegedly slit his throat.
Community members saw him going into the bushes and immediately called the police.
Colonel Naidu says the suspect was found with the deceased child and a blood-stained knife was on the scene.
She says it is alleged that the murder was committed over a paternal dispute with the mother.
The victim was identified as Sinobom Tywantsi.
He is expected to appear in the East London Magistrates Court soon.
