A 27-year-old father is in police custody after he allegedly raped his toddler which resulted in her death.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, says community members from the Tankini informal settlement in Port St Johns made a citizens arrest late on Thursday evening when the alleged rape took place.
He says the child, only 20-months old, was rushed to hospital where she died from her injuries.
Brigadier Kinana says the father will appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrates Court on Monday where he will face a charge of murder and rape.
