A two-year-old Beaufort West boy remains in a serious condition in a George hospital after being severely assaulted by his mother's boyfriend.
Police arrested the 28-year-old suspect over the weekend in connection with the attack on the child.
According to police the child had to undergo life-saving surgery following the attack late last week.
A police spokesperson said the man had allegedly held the boy and his 24-year-old mother at his home in Mandela Square.
He will appear in court on Monday.
