Staff at the energy and electricity department of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality have downed tools in a protest believed to be related to allowance issues.
Metro spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki says its not a formal strike and that senior management from the Office of the City and Electricity and Energy Department are currently engaging the workers to try and end the impasse.
AlgoaFM was advised earlieron Saturday morning that the industrial action had resulted in a delay in the repairing of a faulty line which went down in the Seaview Area on Friday night, as staff were not prepared to attend to the matter.
Meanwhile: Power Guru Eastern Cape is suggesting on Facebook that stage 2 loadshedding, which is currently in effect, cannot be implemented in the Metro at the moment because of the strike by the Electricity and Energy Department's operating staff.
Mniki told AlgoaFM news that this was not entirely true - as Eskom did have the capacity to implement load shedding on its own.
He advised residents of the Metro to still plan ahead - according to the outage alerts they receive.
