Knysna Municipality handed over 100 title deeds to residents of Hornlee on Friday.
Executive Mayor Georlene Wolmarans welcomed the new homeowners, saying that Hornlee carried the hurtful scars of the past, but that door had now finally been closed with the handover of the title deeds.
She urged the owners to look after their new assets.
The municipality's Manager for Integrated Human Settlements, Mawethu Penxa said his department was working closely with the municipality's Legal department to speed up the process of transferring property.
Penxa said future handovers would take place as properties were registered with the Deeds office.
