Tip-off from St Francis resident leads to abalone bust

St Francis Bay police have arrested two men who were found in possession of abalone valued at R28 000.

Spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli says a resident alerted a private security company about suspicious-looking people loading bags into a navy Toyota Avanza at Shark Point before 7 am.

He says the security personnel arrived on the scene and spotted four suspects poaching abalone and contacted the police.

The men are expected to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of Contravening the Marine Living Resource Act.
