A three-year-old Port Elizabeth boy is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in the chest after being caught in gang crossfire on Tuesday.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, said the incident happened in Gelvandale while the boy and his father were in the yard of a house in Martin Street.
She said the child was rushed to a hospital in a private car after being wounded in the upper body.
This is the second incident this week where children were caught in crossfires between rival gangs.
On Saturday, 29 March 2019, 12-year-old Alvineesha Brookes was fatally wounded in Buys Street Bloemendal in Bethelsdorp.
Enrico Gerwel, 21 was arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday on a charge of murder. The case was remanded to 4 April for a formal bail application.

A case of attempted murder is under investigation and anyone with information on the shooting should contact Gelvandale police.
