Three prison wardens were stabbed by inmates at the St Albans correctional facility outside Port Elizabeth on Thursday morning.
Correctional Services Spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo says they were stabbed while they were busy with lock-up following a mandatory exercise session that inmates need to do on a daily basis.
Nxumalo says all three officials were rushed to the hospital and they are in a stable condition.
He says the culprits have been identified and the department has launched an investigation
Nxumalo says this behaviour cannot be tolerated as it affects the safety of their centres.
