Quick action by members of the Public Order Police in Gqeberha led to the arrest of three suspects for an attempted hijacking in Zwide on Friday morning.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says the vigilance and alertness of the members paid off.
She said the SAPS members were on the corners of Uitenhage Road and Spondo Street at around 08:15 when they noticed the three suspects approaching a white Mercedes Benz minibus.
Janse van Rensburg said they quickly realised that a hijacking attempt was underway.
“The members immediately acted and arrested all three suspects and confiscated a revolver, (serial number filed off) and ammunition."
She said the suspects, aged between 30 and 33, face charges of attempted hijacking, and the possession of a “prohibited firearm and ammunition.”
They will appear in the New Brighton Magistrate Court on Monday.
